The Niagara County Family Violence Intervention Project will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Conference and Event Center Niagara Falls.
Featured speakers include Michelle Kaminsky, Esq., author of Reflections of a Domestic Violence Prosecutor: Suggestions for Reform and Cory Jewell Jensen, a national expert who has spent 35 years providing evaluation and treatment to adult sex offenders and their families.
Ms. Kaminsky has more than 16 years experience prosecuting cases of domestic violence. She advocates for a number of reforms including collaborative interdisciplinary response teams and age appropriate education addressing socially constructed gender norms and healthy relationships. Using 11 compelling cases, Kaminsky illustrates how societal beliefs about women, inadequate laws, judicial biases, inflexible prosecution policies and a lock of resources prevent meaningful change for battered women in the criminal justice system.
Ms. Jensen is the Senior Trainer for CBI Consulting. In addition to her clinical experience, Ms. Jensen has provided training and consultation to the National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse, the National Children’s Advocacy Center, the National Children’s Alliance, the United States Navy, the National Crime Victims Association, the NYPD Special Victims Unit and a number of child advocacy and faith-based organizations. Ms. Jensen also serviced as Executive Director for the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers. She has published numerous articles, testified as an expert witness in local and federal courts and has been a featured guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Additional workshops and registration information will be announced. The annual conference attracts over 200 professionals across the region.
