Free domestic violence training available

The Niagara County Family Violence Intervention Project will hold its annual Domestic Violence Academy on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Lockport, New York.

Domestic violence affects up to 25% of American households. Anyone who works with people encounters individuals who have experienced or been exposed to domestic violence. The Niagara County Family Violence Intervention Project’s Domestic Violence Academy provides basic, beginner level training to human service providers, educators, healthcare professionals, clergy and faith-based organizations, corporations, human resources personnel, community agencies, professional associations and community members – anyone who is concerned about domestic violence.

The two-hour seminar is presented by Susan LaRose, Domestic Violence Coordinator at the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and Ann Marie Tucker, Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

The training will address:

  • the dynamics of domestic violence
  • victimization issues
  • identifying and responding to clients affected by violence in the home
  • the impact of exposure to domestic violence on children
  • resources in Niagara County.

The training will be held in the Lockport Public Library Community Room from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For information or to register online or call 285-0045.
